Covington taking down
'ineffective' street signs

Covington road crews have started to remove street signs such as "No Loud Noise" and "Children at Play."

By January 2012 all municipalities are required to have a sign-replacement strategy in place to ensure all posted signs meet retro-reflectivity requirements.

Covington is preparing for this mandate by removing all signs that are not recommended by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

The manual does not recommend the use of signs such as "Children at Play," and "Clean after your pet" because the signs are redundant or they have been found to be ineffective, notes a Cincinnati Enquirer article.
