HUD announced Tuesday that it was funding six grants totaling $113.6 million, and the Jacob Price site at the 1000 block of Greenup Street is one of them.
"The HOPE VI Program has done an outstanding job over the years to improve housing conditions for countless low-income communities and this year, we took it a step further," says U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.
The local housing authority will get $17 million to help demolish more of the Jacob Price Homes complex and build new public housing and low-income units.
A report in the Enquirer says some of the money will be used for a "Jacob Price Commemorative Garden" at the site.
Demolition of Jacob Price Homes began in 2006. The latest grant should mark the finally phase in the
demolition process.
