This coming Sunday, June 13th, from 12-2pm, the Covington Neighborhood Collaborative sponsors an Urban Picnic to welcome the new mural that will be placed on the north-facing wall of the BeConcerned building located on the corner of Washington and 7th Streets, 714 Washington Avenue.
As part of the four-year-old MuralWorks initiative, ArtWorks is planning to transform the exterior of this building, with a mural painted by local teens and artist Tina Westerkamp.
Artworks will beginning painting this mural on the BeConcerned building on Monday. But first, an urban picnic on Saturday
The total cost of the project is about $40,000 and will require support from local businesses and residents.
This mural will be ArtWorks second mural located in Northern Kentucky with support from the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./US Bank Foundation.
ArtWorks, in partnership with the Covington Arts District Consortium, will hire 4 professional artists and a team of 14 teen apprentice artists to design and paint the mural on the exterior of BeConcerned, a local organization committed to helping low-income families obtain the basic necessities for life and maintain economic stability.
The Covington Arts District Consortium includes the City’s Arts District Manager, The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, Westside Action Coalition, Seminary Square Neighborhood Association, BeConcerned, and Center for Great Neighborhoods.
The project will take place over six weeks, starting from Monday June 14th through July 23rd.
The Urban picnic is a free event that will offer hot dogs and other food items kindly donated by Passionate Arts Center, Heringer Meats and Kroger.
The event aims to gather the community around this exciting project, share the draft design and welcome ArtWorks to Covington.
