Covington program helps with down payment of local foreclosed homes

The NSP Homebuyer Assistance Program is used to assist buyers with the purchase of foreclosed properties has been changed to allow purchases anywhere in Covington.
The previous program limited the assistance to purchase of homes in targeted census tracts.
This downpayment assistance can now be used anywhere in the City of Covington, which includes all of Latonia and South Covington.

According to news reports, the city has purchased 12 foreclosed homes in the urban core with a federal grant for the project.
They are in the Westside, Peaselburg and Austinburg neighborhoods, including six properties on Banklick Street.
The city has pending contracts to purchase 10 more properties.
Covington hopes the $5 million grant will allow the city to rehab a minimum of 40 properties.
