Several groups and organizations have come together to build a new playground at troubled John G. Carlisle School, and they're working to raise funds.

"John G. Carlisle School holds a unique position in Kentucky," wrote Covington Rotary Club members in a appeal for funding.
"It's in the poorest school
district of the state. And it's the poorest school in that district. The students' test
scores are the lowest, and attendance is poor.
"Almost 100% of the students qualify for
assistance. Parental involvement is missing from the lives of many of these children."
The Rotary believes that children who have a
playground will view the school as welcoming, a place where they want to be.
Others have joined the effort, including Covington Partners in Prevention, Center for Great Neighborhoods, West Side Action Coalition, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
The Rotary recently held a major fundraiser, called "An Evening of Jazz," which was held at the Marriott.
No word on the amount raised nor the amount needed to build the playground but one thing is for sure:
Children in one of the city's most depressed areas will soon have a safe, secure playground.
